Choosing poolside furniture and putting the finishing flair on your pool design can be great fun, but buying based on looks alone could be a costly mistake. Consider these four points before investing in poolside furniture.
1. Maintenance:
While all good outdoor furniture should be designed to withstand all types of weather, it will still need maintaining and some materials are easier to care for than others. For example, steel and wrought iron will rust without a periodic fresh coat of paint, while plastic just needs the occasional hose down.
2. Comfort:
Just because you’re buying chairs for the great outdoors doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be comfortable. Sit in them for a few minutes. Are they the right height for the table? Can you sit at the back with your feet flat on the floor? If the chairs come with cushions, do they fit properly and provide enough padding?
3. Quality:
Because you want to be sure the furniture will last, right? For wood, check the joins carefully – if there are gaps, move on. With metal furnishings, ensure all the welds blend smoothly into one another. In both cases, play around with the piece to check that it’s firm and solidly built.
4. Shop:
Price and quality can vary dramatically between stores – don’t choose the first pieces you find – check the quality is up-to-scratch and the price is fair before handing over your cash.
