Fall is in the air and winter isn’t far behind. Now is the perfect time to make sure your patio is ready for the snow and ice. Take a Saturday afternoon to follow the easy tips for winterizing your patio, and you’ll be much happier come next spring!
- Clean all your patio furniture with warm soapy water and a gentle brush. Rinse thoroughly, let dry and then if possible, store in the garage or outside storage shed. If no space is available, then wrap securely with heavy plastic tarps or outdoor furniture covers.
- While it’s possible to use your outdoor grill during our frigid Boston winter, many people would rather store it. If your grill is propane and you are planning on putting it inside your garage it’s important to disconnect the tank and leave it outdoors. Propane tanks should never be kept in an enclosed area.
- Store all gardening tools, bags of potting soil and spare pots. Empty all pots not being used and place upside down so they don’t hold water or ice. Bring any plants indoors that won’t survive the season’s first freeze
- After everything is off the patio take the time to pressure wash it, removing all the summer’s stuck on dirt and grime. And while you’ll probably want to do it again after winter is over, it will definitely make the process much easier!
