Adding a patio to your home is a great way to spend time outdoors with friends and family, and best of all, the addition will make your house worth more in the long run, so you can’t really go wrong. If you
already have a patio, giving it a makeover can also improve its usability. While installing or revamping a patio is hard work and best left to a professional, picking the right surface and patio design is something you can do.
- Concrete. Concrete is a common choice for a patio because it’s strong and can be styled in a variety of ways. For example, concrete slabs work well in a contemporary house, while painted concrete may be a better optional for a transitional or traditional style home. Concrete is also relatively easy to care for, making it a good choice for families.
- Wood. Like concrete, wood patios can fit any type of home, depending on the type of wood you pick. A light, polished wood might be bet in a contemporary home, while a natural, unfinished style might better suit a traditional home. Wood does require a little more upkeep than concrete, but many find it’s worth the somewhat minimal effort. Composite materials made to look like wood can also be used in high-traffic areas where natural wood may not be suitable.
