Fish Pond Design Guide

Fish Pond Design Guide

If you’re looking for ways to boost not only your enjoyment of your backyard, but also the curb appeal of your home, then one of the best ways to do this is by adding water features. If you want to go all out and have a stunning water feature that will impress family and friends alike, then why not build a fish pond? The following are a few things that you should keep in mind when building a fish pond.Fish_Pond_Design

  • Size – The size will depend greatly on how much space you have. A shallow fish pond is great for a small area, and it will allow lily pads to grow in it as well. Deeper fish ponds will give your fish a chance to grow larger, but you need the space to build it.
  • Lining – Because a simple dirt hole isn’t going to retain water very well, you’ll need to line your depression. You can do this using rubber liners, concrete spray or plastic tubs. Using concrete will allow you to incorporate lots of other design elements, such as creative lighting
  • Pump Equipment – Pump equipment should be hidden beneath rocks or plants, or you can hide it on the side of the house using extensions.
  • Landscaping – You’ll want to spruce up your fish pond with a bit of landscaping, so remember to budget for plants, rocks and decking.
