From pathways to patios, maintaining hardscapes isn’t that hard to do. In fact, the little things will go a long way towards ensuring their longevity. Chief among the things you can do, make sure that you are irrigating your landscape properly.
First, ensure that your sprinkler systems are aimed properly so that excess water doesn’t collect around walkways, patios, or retaining walls. As water collects in these areas it can undermine them, which can cause cracks and fissures. One way to prevent this is to adjust your sprinkler angles and directions so that you remove any overlapping spray which may be saturating areas of your landscape.
Additionally, if you are using a drip sprinkler or other watering system for raised garden beds or planter boxes, be sure that these are applying the proper amount of water for the plants they contain. Further, make sure that they are draining properly as water that collects could begin to break through causing the retaining walls to fail.
