- Clean out the ashes. It’s always a good idea to clean out the ashes once they’ve cooled down. This keeps them from building up and staining the pit.
- Keep the perimeter clear of debris. Loose sticks, excess wood, leaves, and grass are all fire hazards. Keep them far away from the pit.
- Seal the pit. Make sure your stones and concrete are sealed with a high-temperature sealant. This keeps them looking nice and helps them withstand the high temperatures that a fire pit can generate.
- Keep water handy. Always make sure you have water by the pit to douse any flames or embers when the evening is over.
- Cover the pit. When not in use, your fire pit should be covered so debris can’t get inside.
