Pool coping is like icing on a cake. It’s installed along the top edge of a pool and used to frame the pool and help it stand out from the pool decking. In most cases, the coping is about 12″ wide, and just like the frame around a picture; it gives the pool a unique and distinctive appearance. Of course, it also serves a functional purpose. As the pool coping extends over the concrete pool deck, it eliminates the need for an expansion joint and makes for easier maintenance. It also makes entrance into, and egress out of the pool easier.
When choosing your coping, you can go one of two ways; you can match it to the pool deck, or you can contrast it. For a more Mediterranean or Caribbean aesthetic, you should consider using a lighter coping than the surrounding hardscape. For a more modern aesthetic, you will want to select a coping that closely matches the color and texture of the hardscape.
