A pool can increase the value of your home and be enjoyable for you as a homeowner, but when winter comes around, chances are you probably won’t be using it too much. That’s why it’s important to maintain your pool the right way during the winter months, and winter maintenance is different than maintenance throughout the year.
Use these tips to keep your pool properly maintained this winter:
- Allow your pools pumps and motors to work as they normally do even if you’re not going to be swimming in the pool. Turning them off can cause bearings to lock up and cause other mechanical problems that could be expensive to fix.
- Continue chemically treating your pool as usual. The process of how you treat your pool will generally be dependent upon what type of cover you use.
- Use a mesh or solid cover to close your pool if you’re going to do so. If you use a cover and turn your pool’s pumps off, you will need to open your pool again before spring to stabilize and use it.
