If you’re looking for a way to create a stunning, 3D design for hardscapes in your yard, incorporating rocks is a good choice. Rocks give your yard a bit of natural character, and they also add a touch of texture to the area. Follow these tips to use them to your advantage:
- Always mark off your stone path before you start digging. Use spray paint, and don’t be afraid to adjust the lines if they don’t look right the first time. It’s better to have to modify paint than it is a completed stone path that doesn’t meet with your patio correctly.
- When building walls, use gravel beneath the wall to give it added stability. Spread the gravel in 2-inch layers, packing each layer well before adding a new one. Eight inches of gravel will give your stone wall adequate support.
- When laying the stones along the walking surface of your path, use sand as your base. This way, you can easily work the stones into the sand and ensure that all of their tops are even, creating a smooth walking surface.
