Despite the rather striking similarities, there is a lot more to pools that a simple hole that has been dug into the ground. For instance, there is pool coping, which is when a material is used to cap the outermost boundaries of the pool. Common examples range from natural stones to poured concrete and even precast concrete pavers.
Similar to most elements of landscaping, pool coping can be used for both beautification and more practical purposes. Since it can be made using such a broad range of materials, there is almost no end to the possibilities available to homeowners. For example, one homeowner might choose to use poured concrete for a simple but uniform appearance, while another might use concrete pavers to create geometric patterns. In some cases, homeowners can even use natural stones to better fit in with water features located on their premises.
At the same time, pool coping is practical because it protects the pool from contamination while also providing a secure hold for people using the pool. A pool is not complete until the pool shell has been capped.
