Driveway Material Options – Pavers, Exposed Aggregate, Concrete
A new driveway can be installed using a variety of materials including pavers, exposed aggregate or plain concrete. Typically in New England, concrete driveways are installed less frequently, when compared with pavers, due to the heavy usage of de-icing salt on the roads during the winter months. Exposed Aggregate provides added durability with natural stones in the top surface of the concrete, however Triad recommends using a sealer or additives to the concrete mix to help prevent the concrete from deteriorating from salt. Pavers provide the most durable hardscape material when it comes to driveways in New England. Techo-Bloc driveway pavers now come with a transferable lifetime warranty that includes any surface deterioration due to de-icing salt.
Can I Plow My Paver or Exposed Aggregate Driveway?
The short answer is yes… although a snow plow with a metal edge can scratch and gouge the top surface of a paver driveway. Triad Associates recommends using a snow plow with a rubber edge or urethane blade to prevent damage to the top surface of your concrete pavers or exposed aggregate.
